Strap in for a delirious journey to the sun baked sands of nightmare. Oasis of the Zombies drags you deep into a cursed desert oasis where the dead don’t just rise, they come armed with vengeance and a serious appetite for flesh. This is no subtle horror. It’s a gonzo mix of undead rampage and treasure hunt madness that slaps you across the face with cheesy special effects, shambling zombies dripping with goo, and a plot as thin as the desert wind. But who cares? The true joy here is in the unrelenting, over the top vibe that only 70s Euro zombie flicks can deliver. Characters stumble through sandstorms and graveyards with the kind of clueless bravado that guarantees a fast death while the zombies lumber with a slow, inevitable menace that creeps under your skin even if their makeup looks like it was slapped on with a trowel. The film’s pacing is a maddening rollercoaster with moments of tense dread interrupted by bursts of absurdity and bizarre dialogue that make you wonder if you’re dreaming or trapped in a fever. Add in a moody score dripping with eerie synths and dramatic percussion and you’ve got a midnight movie cocktail that’s equal parts nightmare and campy delight. Oasis of the Zombies is perfect for those who crave their horror soaked in sand, sweat and shambling corpses. A grubby, grimy and gloriously bad trip through zombie cinema’s desert wasteland. Grab your water, hold your breath and prepare to get lost in a zombie oasis you won’t soon forget.
